Despite the increase of involvement in research, how conducting research benefits chaplains’ professional care for clients has not been studied. The present study aimed to describe how chaplains perceive the impact of participation in the Dutch Case Studies Project (CSP) on their professional expertise and positioning in the institution. A survey was distributed among participants of the CSP (N=50) and was completed by 48 participants. We found that participation in research contributed to the expertise of chaplains (e.g., its goal-orientation, the use of theory and method) and their positioning as they try to legitimate their profession. This study thus substantiates the presumption that chaplains’ engaging in research as chaplain-researcher contributes to the perceived improvement of the quality of chaplaincy care and its legitimation.enginfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessCAREEVOLUTIONHEALTHchaplain-researcherchaplaincyprofessionalizationspiritual carethe NetherlandsThe perceived impact of being a chaplainresearcher on professional practiceArticleGeneral rights Copyright and moral rights for the publications made accessible in the public portal are retained by the authors and/or other copyright owners and it is a condition of accessing publications that users recognise and abide by the legal requirements associated with these rights. - Users may download and print one copy of any publication from the public portal for the purpose of private study or research. - You may not further distribute the material or use it for any profit-making activity or commercial gain - You may freely distribute the URL identifying the publication in the public portal" Take down policy If you believe that this document breaches copyright please contact us providing details, and we will remove access to the work immediately and investigate your claim.https://www.scopus.com/pages/publications/851410629956488073314https://research.tilburguniversity.edu/en/publications/b64f46da-3216-464b-8893-f07e85149a6b(c) Universiteit van Tilburgden Toom, J.N.
