Abstract
Research in the field of psychotherapy is dominated by a medical metaphor, giving rise to standardized procedures which restrict interaction between therapist and client in a way that may often be deemed as counter-productive. Conversations with Gerard de Zeeuw suggested alternative procedures for gathering information to enhance the development of psychotherapeutic interventions. This approach to research may be labelled as a kind of interactional perspectivism. The paper itself may be read as a personal reflection on de Zeeuw's teachings about developing a more social view on improvement.
