Creativities in tourism development

Richards,G.

Abstract
The diverse approaches analyzed in this volume illustrate that ‘creativity’ is far from being a uniform process or a panacea for development problems. In fact, it may be far more appropriate to talk about different ‘creativities’. There are clearly different models for creative development, different concepts of creativity, different creative experiences, different levels of visibility of creative spaces and spectacles, and creativity may be integrated with or separated from other policy areas. In this concluding chapter we attempt to draw together some of the divergent strands of these different ‘creativities’, highlighting some of the major issues which emerge from the individual chapters. We pay particular attention to those aspects of creativity that are pertinent to the development of tourism, but in doing so we also cover many themes that are relevant for creative development in general.
